The shape was inspired by the letter O from the alphabet by the 15th C French typographer Claude Garamond, revered for the clarity, elegance and proportion of his letters. The modern cursive script is from the hand of Josephine Hopper, wife of the American painter and printmaker, Edward Hopper.
