DATE: Victorian, c.1890

A cool antique intaglio signet / pinky ring dating from the late 19th century, circa 1890. The face displays an English heraldic crest - a bird of prey - along with the Latin motto "VIRTUTE ET SAPIENTIA", or Virtue and Wisdom (which, incidentally, is the motto of the University of Bucharest). It was made by the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company of 112 Regent Street, London, who would later amalgamate with Garrard & Co. Crafted in 18 karat gold with London hallmarks and G&S Co Ltd maker's mark to the inner band.
