Speak only truth of the living... A cool Victorian signet ring set with an intaglio carved rectangular sardonyx panel. The crest depicts a crowned lion's head, in profile, above the Latin motto: "De Vivis Nil Nisi Verum" The full motto is actually De Vivis Nil Nisi Verum De Mortius Nil Nisi Bonum, which translates as Speak only truth of the living and good of the dead - presumably shortened here so it fits on the heraldic crest. A fine antique signet ring modelled in 18 karat gold and dating from the 1880s.
